Mattex owners Matt and Mike and the Marketing Coordinator Sam enjoyed networking with the Monticello community at the Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours hosted by Keller Williams. It was wonderful meeting new people. Here are some of the pictures taken from the event. We also have the 12' inflatable Trane a/c displayed at Mattex. Happy Friday!

Preventative
Maintenance Quick Tips
by Mattex Service technician Ed Eichner

Air condition season is right around the corner! Mattex is
offering you a few quick tips that will help your a/c system run efficiently throughout
the summer. These quick tips can also help preserve the life of your a/c system.
· Change your air filter often to make sure it’s
free of dust particles and other debris. This is very important to do
especially after making any home improvements. It is recommended to change your
filter once a month or as you feel necessary. In general, make sure your air filter
is clean in order to maintain proper air flow through the system.
·
Make sure overgrown grass and weeds are cleaned
away from the outside system. This could cause blockage of air flow which will taking
the system longer to cool your house down, costing you extra money.
· When mowing your lawn try to make sure the grass
is being blown from the mower in the opposite direction of your a/c system.
Small particles of grass clippings will fly into the system and clog the
condenser, blocking air flow from the unit.
· When weed whacking pay close attention to wires
attached to your a/c unit that may be close to the ground so you don’t cut them
and end up with costly repairs to the system.
· Make sure all the registers are open for proper
airflow throughout the entire house. It makes great sense to shut off registers
to rooms that are not in use as much as other rooms. But having those registers
closed cuts off air flow and forces all the air to come out of the registers
that are open. This again will make your a/c system work extra hard to cool
down your home and unfortunately can cause damage to the compressor which can
be a costly repair.

Commercial Kitchen Garbage Disposal Quick Tips
Service Tips: Garbage Disposals
- Published on Monday, 09 February 2015
- Written by Toby Weber, Contributing Editor
Garbage disposals make life easier in many commercial kitchens. They can make cleaning pots, pans and dishes easier and prevent drain clogs.
Just because they’re such workhorses, though, doesn’t mean they can be abused. Here are some tips to help foodservice operators keep their garbage disposals in good working order.
- Garbage disposals aren’t trashcans and shouldn’t be treated as such. Don’t send paper products, glass, plastic or cigarette butts down the disposal. Food waste only.
- Not all food waste can go down the disposal. Large animal bones are out. Extremely fibrous foods like celery and cornhusks can get tangled in a disposal and cause a major clog.
- Grease should not be poured down a disposal either. It can easily build up in a unit, making it less effective and clogging the drain. For that same reason, use cold water with a disposal. It solidifies grease into particles that are washed away. Hot water, on the other hand, will liquify grease, which causes plenty of problems.
- Operators can check for issues like excessive vibration, water leaks and the proper water flow down the disposal drain. If you spot one of these, call your service agent.
There are lots of tips for dealing with odors from a garbage disposal. Among them are making ice cubes out of vinegar, and grinding lemons or limes.
